Five Questions

Well, this seems like an interesting thing to do on the 4th of July. From Mark’s post of 5 questions from Dick, here are my questions and responses…

1. If you could cure one childhood disorder out of all those that afflict children, what would it be, and why?

This one is probably pretty obvious…autism. It affects 1 in 150 children which is more than most other diseases combined. It doesn’t affect our lives as much as it does others, even though Ari is autistic. We have managed his behaviors quite well, but there are definitely more severe cases out there. It doesn’t make parents love those children any less, but it does complicate things. In an already complicated world, you would like to be able to do your job as parents well without having to give yourself up to it. I think if we could find a cure, we could free up a lot of time in the lives of families who deal with this. Time to experience relationships as most of us relate. Time to spend with ALL family members without worrying about inclusion or exclusion. Time to be who our biology dictates we should be.

2. What is your all-time favorite song?

Another One Bites the Dust by Queen

3. If you could live anywhere else in the world besides the US, what country would it be, and why?

The Netherlands. We actually plan on owning a vacation/retirement home there in the future. When we lived in Belgium we spent a lot of time in the Netherlands and love it. The people are great. The countryside is magnificent. Everyone is a lot more open and less uptight. The obvious…cheese, coffee, chocolate, bread and beer. (although, that was the point where the scale REALLY started to tip for me) Also, it’s proximity to other countries as well. It’s just a wonderful, wonderful place.

4. If you could only end one of these: Poverty, AIDS, or war, which would you choose, and why?

AIDS. I see it as an unnecessary evil.

5. What’s your favorite position?
(And I’m not talking about the baseball team, here…)
Hey, I had to ask one frivolous, sex-related question. LOL

According to the “rules” of this game, if you would like me to ask YOU questions, just leave a note in the comments.

  1. #1 – I didn’t know autism was so prevalent, although I did figure you would reply with that. VERY informative and I’m glad I asked.

    #2 – Surprising, actually.

#3 – Yeah, I can see wanting to live there. i liked it too.

    #4 – Great answer.

    #5 – WOOT! GMTA!

  2. I always thought of it as a sort of throw-away somg on an otherwise interesting album.

Although I guess maybe I’m also sick of it being overplayed at sporting events and so forth.
